GAME PITCH

  • Learning Topic (What subject and specific learning concept does your game cover?)

Somebody from West Virginia arriving in Paris. The French person (male or female)and the WV person have to get around with the same instructions in their own language. When the french person says something the WV person has to find the right answer and the other way around.

  • Audience (Who are you designing your game for, and why? Be specific

Students that want to learn basic language survival skills.

  • Game Play (What does the player see and do? What are the rules and how do you win? What is the goal of the game?)

The player will see a background of the city of "Gay Paree". Early morning, finding a bathroom, getting coffee, catching the Metro to get to Notre Dame... Level 1 is bathroom. Level 2 coffee and croissant. Level 3 getting a map and using the Metro. Goal is Notre Dame and get to meet their French dream partner.

  • Fun Factor (What makes your game fun for the player?)

Words will be falling down from the sky and the player has to pick the right one to fill in the sentence. Once they get through a level successfully they will receive a funny line (in French) for praise.

  • Smart Factor (What does your game teach? What can someone learn by playing it?)

The player will learn some French words that are important to know.

  • Style Factor (What kind of graphic/animation style will you use? What kind of sounds?)

We will have clips of what they say in English and in French, and different background music.

  • Originality Factor (What makes your game special and unique? Why will it sell?) We are taking the WV stereotype of a hillbilly and we are putting him into the modern and worldly city of Paris. The storyline will be lightly humorous while being educational at the same time.

  • Team Introduction

Names and roles of team members: Larry Tackett, Angie Leef, Natascha Francis

DESIGN PLAN

  • Look at your paper prototype as you fill in this template.
  • Think about one scene at a time -- fill in all the details you can think of.
  • Go to the next scene, and do the same.
  • After you create this plan, you'll be ready to start making the game!

Raining Words

Larry is already hard at work "raining words"...

Tascha: These are some of my achievements so far. Do you like these characters? French man and woman are first and then WV man and woman.

I thought the man or woman should be standing on a road somewhere or in front of a hotel asking for the bathroom instead of being in a bathroom. That is why I made the background a street. I will try to connect your raining words code to my words. I can not guarantee anything though. Thanks for uploading it.

Angie's Comments: Tascha, I love these drawings! You guys are way ahead of me!! I need to get caught up and assist.

Larry's Comments Tascha, I too love you drawings! You are really an artist! I'll check back on Tuesday and see how you did. I can begin working again on this later this week, and all next. Sorry to have been absent.

How to Win/Lose and Point System

  • Briefly describe how the player gains and loses points (or lives or energy, etc.)
  • Make a list of items with point values

Title Scene

1. Describe this scene (What do you see?)

Our West Virginia (Male or Female) is travelling to France to meet a possible love interest. The Titl Screen will include a merge of West Virginia and French Accordian music to set the mood. As the title denotes, "Hill Billys" will learn to love language by learning the "language of love"

Here is my attempt at playing with the title scene...hmmmm, back to the drawing board, I have published incorrectly...drat!...to be continued!--I need to take out the "stop()" in the coding so the hillbilly keeps moving; right now he does it so quickly you cannot see him moving.....grrr!
