Choose a Specific Message (or Messages) for Your Game
1. Your task
You have been asked to read Animal Vegetable Miracle, a novel that explores the impact of eating locally. It addresses how eating local food has economic, health and environmental ramifications. You will be developing a game that translates the one or more concepts covered in the book into a fun playing experience. In the "Projects" section, make a list of at least 7 specific messages that could be covered in a game. For example, one message could be "Eat food that is in season."
2. Choose One or Two of the above Messages to Focus On
- What are the most important facts people should know about your messages?
- What actions should people do in order to help with this topic?
- What is a positive outcome that could happen if people learned more about this issue?
Identify a Game Genre For Exploring Your Topic
1. Explore the list of Game Genres on Wikipedia
2. Pick Two Genres for Your Game Topic
Select two game genres that you think offer an especially good way to present information and get people to learn more about your topic.
Find Content Resources for Your Game Topic
Find a set of online and real world resources where you can gather facts, images and sounds to use in your game.
1. To begin looking for information online, try doing a Google search on your topic.
Remember, you must give credit to the original creators of any material you plan to use.
2. 'Real world' resources can include teachers in your school, community members, books, periodicals and more.
Be sure to look for both online and real world resources for images, videos, sounds etc.
Update Your Wiki
Update your "My Projects" page with the lists you created.
Update Your Blog:
- Search for blogs about your topic.
- Find at least 3 high-quality blogs you'd like to keep up with, and put them in a blogroll list.
- Write a blog post about why you chose these blogs and how you think they can help you think critically about your topic. What makes this blog better than others? What kinds of conversations are people having about your topic?
- These blogs will help you to learn about your topic, and to give you content inspiration for your own blog throughout your Globaloria experience!
