Rock For The Constitution

CIVICS GAME CONCEPT

  • Our game teaches civics in the Ideals Framework. Our game is about a guy who plays the guitar and learns his amendments though playing popular songs thoughout the decades. It teaches civics through a fun game by having cases about the amendments and having a page with the first ten amedments of the Constitutiion. The Final Game file is open to everone is ready to play it below.

GAME PITCH

  • Intro screen: Rock for the Constitution

  • Team Introduction

Garrett Hunt- Actionscripter, Game Constructer.
Charles Rowe- Artist, Team Manager and Sound Editor.

  • Learning Topic

Our game on civics focuses on the subject of Rights and Resposibilities.

  • Audience

We're designing the game on the Middle School Level for elementary kids because they need to know about thier rights as a citizen of the United States of America.

  • Game Play

The Player will see thier character, dressing room (if we get into making that) and the playing field. The Player will click on buttons, tap the keys of the notes on the screen, press the spacebar to get the fire flame of the screen and learn about the amendments. The only two rules are have fun and follow the on-screen directions. You win the game by winning the songs and amendment parts. The goal of the game is to teach about the amendments by playing a game.

  • Fun Factor

The Player has fun by playing a game just like Guitar Hero, DDR and Rock Band.

  • Smart Factor

Our game teaches about the Rights of the amendments. Someone can learn all thier rights.

  • Style Factor

All of the notes will be moving, the characters will be talking and the buttons will work. We will use music as sounds.

  • Originality Factor

The reason our game is different because it teaches about the amendments. It will sell because it is fun just like DDR, Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

PAPER PROTOTYPE

  • Date of Paper Prototype: Oct. 2009
  • Yes, our game changed since we did the paper prototype with the playing scenes, the choose character screen, and the dressing room scenes (which we don't have anymore). The Playing Scene changed because you no longer play with a,s,d,f,g and Spacebar.

The choose character screen changed because there are no more names and there are only 2 characters.

RESEARCH

List 3 sources you used to research your game:
Source:

  • What you learned:

Petitioner John F. Tinker, 15 years old, and petitioner Christopher Eckhardt, 16 years old, attended high schools in Des Moines, Iowa. Petitioner Mary Beth Tinker, John's sister, was a 13-year-old student in junior high school.

In December 1965, a group of adults and students in Des Moines held a meeting at the Eckhardt home. The group determined to publicize their objections to the hostilities in Vietnam and their support for a truce by wearing black armbands during the holiday season and by fasting on December 16 and New Year's Eve. Petitioners and their parents had previously engaged in similar activities, and they decided to participate in the program.

The principals of the Des Moines schools became aware of the plan to wear armbands. On December 14, 1965, they met and adopted a policy that any student wearing an armband to school would be asked to remove it, and if he refused he would be suspended until he returned without the armband. Petitioners were aware of the regulation that the school authorities adopted.

  • What you learned: Definition of government officials - people elected or appointed to administer a government

U.S. Government rights to use, modify, reproduce, release, perform, display, or disclose these technical data and/or computer data bases and/or computer software and/or computer software documentation are subject to the limited rights restrictions

  • Why you chose this source: We needed to know what a govenment official was.

GAME IDEAS

NARROWING THE TOPIC

  • The Topic of Your Game:

To teach about the 1st and most important amendment.

  • Specific amendment/freedom/right/aspect of the journey/Cabinet member responsibilities you BOTH have decided to narrow your game to:

We have decided to narrow our topic down to the first amendment.

  • The title of the game you BOTH agreed upon. Explain how it reflects your topic:

We are going to keep our original game name because the first amendment is part of the Constitution.

  • Your storyline:

Our storyline is that, to win the game, your player has to asume the role of a guitarist on his/her way to make his/her fortune, which is a minimum of 2,000,000,000 points which is not impossible, just improbable - not likley to occur, but if it does you will be crowned "Constitution Master,"which is the highest rank in the game, but on his/her way he/she faces challnges that could cost them 2,000 pts.

DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL ADRESS YOUR TOPIC IN THE GAME SCENES

a. Scene 1:
I. Story Line: Only thing you have to do in this scene is to play a song named "Bodies" By Drowning Pool and after you play the song you HAVE to read about the 1st amendment.
II. What the player has to do to win: Play the song all the way through without failing. (Touching the bar behind the note screen). Then you HAVE to read.
III. What the player has to know before he/she can play: How to play the game. (go to the help scene.)

b. Scene 2:
I. Story Line: Only thing you have to do is play a song and after you do you have to solve a case.
II. What the player has to do to win: Play the song all the way and solve a case.
III. What the player has to know before he/she can play: How to Play the game.

Garrett and Charles Character Effects We were wondering how we would make our characters have less flaws in them, and this helps us out a lot. 03/16/2010 - 03/20/2010
Garrett and Charles Collision Detection This will help with our notes in our game, "Rock For The Constitution", we are working on our playing scene and we had no idea how to make it where you can hit a letter and it will explode and you will get that note. 03/20/2010 - 03/24/2010
Garrett and Charles Score Keeping This will help us because we need to get score every time that you hit a letter. 03/24/2010 - 03/28/2010
