January 29, 2007: The Wiki is Alive
There is a LOT (GODOL!) to see in our wiki, thanks to our smart young FLASH/WEB developers.
For example, check out the "Personal Workouts" page to see how your friends have personalized their Flash Applets!!!
Or, check out the "Cool Projects" area to see some creations that we have all been working on in our spare time to test out our new skills!
See ya soon!

January 9, 2007: Things to do in January
Hey Everyone, Happy 2007!!!
Kim -- it's great that you wrote your question here. We know the trial Flash software everyone downloaded is probably expired. We are working to get the real program for you. We will have an update soon.
For now... please complete the four assignments for your Team Projects! (Most of them do not require Flash.)
Cheers, Shannon
January 5, 2007: Flash access question
Hi! Its Kim:]:] I don't know if I supposed to write her but. Whatever:] My limitation of the flash is over…and its wont downloading again….amm problem :/ :]
December 13, 2006: FLASH WORKOUT #5: COOL ART EFFECTS: MASKING
Ma-matsav everybody!!!
In this week's Flash Workout, you are going to learn one of my favorite effects in Flash and Photoshop. It is called "MASKING," and it is like taking a stencil and placing it over an image or movie so that only certain parts are visible. It is an awesome effect, and it is used to make some of the coolest websites and applications on the internet. Let's do a 5 minute workout....and you can learn this cool trick to use in your own artwork.
December 8, 2006: Team Assignment #4 -- ALPHA PROJECT SLIDESHOW
Hola Amigos! Are you ready for your final "Alpha" Team Assignment? GOOD!
PROGRAMMERS, you will create a Flash Slideshow that tells the story of your Team project. Non-programmers, don't worry, there is stuff for everyone to do! Each team will present their slideshow at our Alpha Workshop in January (Yes, we are coming back to Israel in January... and we can’t wait to see you and your projects!) You have until December 28 (three weeks!) to finish this assignment, (and any of the other three Team Assignments.)
Read Team Assignment #4: Alpha Project Slideshow (Due December 28)and get started now.
Remember -- you can ask Nir, Yakot, Terrence or me for any help you need. We LOVE to help!
ADIOS, Shannon
December 1, 2006: Team Assignment #3 -- CONTENT PLAN
Happy December! I know everyone has a full calendar this month (I do!)... But there is always time for Team Project fun, right? :P
This week, the WRITERS are up to bat for Team Assignment #3: Content Plan and Examples (Due December 6).
Many teams are still working on:
Team Assignment #1: Functional Spec
Team Assignment #2: Design Mock Ups
And that's cool, keep at it! Different people on the team should be doing each of these assignments. It's OK if you are doing some of them at the same time. Try to catch up and finish Assignments 1 and 2 this week. Post the assignments on your Team page, so we can check them out. Don't be shy to ask Nir, Yakot, Terrence or me for any help you need. We are here and ready to rock!
PEACE, Shannon
November 30, 2006: FLASH WORKOUT #4 -- MAKING IT SMALLER
Hi everybody!!! Terrence here, reporting live from the wiki :)
I hope you guys are fantastic, and school isn't giving you too much work!!! Feel free to email me some pictures and good stories, if you have any...
This week's Flash Workout is a very useful one: it will be a great help to anyone trying to keep the filesize of their work very SMALL, without losing too much QUALITY. Keep in mind that any website is made up of many (GODOL! -thanks ifat) smaller images, sounds, scripts, and other file formats....pretty soon it can add up to LONG DOWNLOAD TIMES for your internet audience. After you finish this workout, you will be a pro at MAKING IT SMALLER.
November 24, 2006: Team Assignment #2 -- DESIGN MOCK UPS
Salaam and Shalom everyone! Shannon here. As Terrence mentioned, today is Thanksgiving in the USA!
We take this day to say thanks for all the good stuff in or lives, and to eat a huge feast with our families. One of the things I am grateful for is that we are working with all of you on Globaloria. It has been so fun!
By now each team should be pretty close to finishing your Functional Spec assignment. It’s a BIG Alpha phase milestone, congratulations! Make sure you post it on your Team’s page. If you are still working on the spec, that’s OK -- keep going!
This week you should start working on Alpha Milestone #2: Design Mock ups. Designers, this is your week to go nuts and have fun! I know some of you have already started drawing up design ideas and that’s great. (Special props to Zlil and May!) Just make sure you are now adding in any new ideas your team described in the Functional spec. The Design Mock Ups are due next Thursday, November 30.
November 24, 2006: FLASH WORKOUT #3 --ADDING SOUNDS
Hey everyone,
It's Terrence :) (sababa toda....) and it's Thursday.....(it's Thanksgiving over here today....all delicious Turkeys better watch out for D Sharp!!!!)This week's Flash Workout will help you take your favorite music and sound effects (even stuff you record.....like your own voice, or your cat meowing) and put them into your Flash games and apps. You could make a little mp3 player of all your favorite sounds: your family, your street, your school....anything! This workout will teach you a few different ways to make it happen. I have recommended some places to get sounds if you don't want to record any.....maybe your crazy high-tech phones have a microphone built-in? (i definetely know they have big SPEAKERS.....rock stars). Check it out, and start making beautiful music with Flash today! Oh yeah, and keep the projects from Week 1/2 coming....they look great so far.
Andres, you are my Flash hero :) "Masking" (a cool layer effect we will offically learn later) is not the easiest skill, and you are working it into your projects really well. We might change your name to Flash-dres.... -tg

November 16, 2006: FLASH WORKOUT #2 -- ANIMATION
Hi everybody, D Sharp here...
If it's Thursday, it must be time for a Weekly Workout! This one will make all the designers in the group very happy...
Weekly Workout #2: Making Flash Animations (Due November 23).
Give it a try -- you will be creating smooth, engaging animations in no time. Animation is one of the strengths of Macromedia Flash; you can use it to create catchy text effects, online cartoons, and other cool types of moving art (all of these things would look great in your next project :).
Last week's Timer projects are looking GREAT, see for yourself! May, Andres and Yakot -- so nice. If you haven't done one yet, go to Weekly Flash Workout #1: Creating a Timer with ActionScript and try it now. Please keep them coming!
P.S. Zlil...i think it's a great place to write it...why not?
November 16, 2006 Zlil's Update
Hello everybody...:] I updated team 4 page, with my sketch to my idea, to our desgin...(I just hope that this is the right place to write it :| ) have a great day :] Zlil
November 9, 2006: FLASH WORKOUT #1 -- TIMER
Hey Everyone, هاي - It's Terrence here. This is your assignment for this week. It's due next Thursday (than you'll get a new assignment)
To help you understand more about the way Flash works, the Globaloria team recommends browsing through the Tutorials:Flash sectionof MyGLife.org. Become familiar with the various online lessons we have posted for you!
We are going to explore together a new Flash technique every week. These techniques will be very specific experiments that you can build and tweak for use in your BIG design project. The first Flash Recipe that we will explore is a timer that you can use in your applications. Click here to start building your own Flash timer. شكر
November 2, 2006: Team Assignment #1 -- FUNCTIONAL SPEC
Hi Everyone! It’s Shannon writing my first Thursday Team update from my home computer back in the US.
The USA team got home yesterday and we miss you already! We will be in touch right here, with a new update every Thursday afternoon.
As we discussed in our last workshop, your team goal for November/December is to develop an ALPHA – a prototype (AvTipus) -- of your project. The Alpha will show your ‘clients’ (us) some important things your project will do when it is finished in April.
This week each team should start to create a Functional Spec (also known as a 'Project Plan') that explains how your program will work. The functional spec is VERY important because it ensures that the whole team shares the same vision of what you are building. It also helps you to create a list of specific tasks each team member will work on.
Go to Functional Spec Assignment now to read a full description of a functional spec, and to see your assignment for making one. Have fun, and post any questions or ideas you have about this assignment on the blog!

October 29, 2006 Third Globaloria Workshop
10/29/06 Third Globaloria Workshop: SO GOOD TO SEE EVERYONE AGAIN!!! It was very inspiring to hear the teams talk about their experiences with Design Project #4, especially the many different ways that everyone used the wiki this week to communicate with each other and keep their projects moving along. All the new graphics are beautiful and we will continue to show us your creative talent. Thanks to the all the wiki experts in the room (and Derrick Sharp!) we are ALL getting very good at formatting with wiki markup language, and soon every page will grow to be a real reflection of its author(s). Lastly, we all took our first real baby steps with FLASH design tonight, and it is clear that you guys are ready to take your static drawings and images to the next level with animation and tweening. Just wait until we start coding ;) See you tomorrow!

Also, we started to use Adobe Photoshop for editing our graphics. At the end of the day, we formed 7 Teams, and began to brainstorm and plan Software Design Project #4.
